Editorial: Voters' power

IN LESS than a month millions of voters are set to troop their respective precinct to cast their vote for the 2019 National and Local Elections.

Each voter holds the power to create change in the country by casting their vote for the right person to be among the leaders.

We have been through numerous elections - numerous time to change our country for the better - but wrong leaders have consistently been elected to hold government positions. Leaders who continue to abuse their power, steal from the Filipinos, and do nothing but improve their own wealth.

Many are still wooed by the sweet words of some politicians who have a bad track record. The voters may hold a lot of power during the elections, the will power of many is not that strong.

As voters, we have to realize that the future of our country rests in our hands. We cannot simply listen to the sweet words and promises, most of which will be broken, of our politicians. We have to look beyond those words.

For reelectionists, we have to see their track record during their past service. Have they done anything good for the country or community? What are their accomplishments? Do they have a history of corruption? Have they been honest during their service?

For new candidates, we have to see their qualifications and their stance on certain issues.

We, voters, are very powerful, especially during the elections. We will determine how our country will be in the next couple of years. Do we still want the corrupt to run? Do we still want to suffer with "epals" leading us? Will we vote again someone who have been accused of stealing the money of the country?

By understanding our power, we will be able to vote people who will ensure that we will progress as a country; people who will serve the people and not themselves.
