La Castellana mayor warns public of deceptive propaganda

LA CASTELLANA Mayor Rhumyla Nicor-Mangilimutan urged the people in the city to be vigilant, following reports that some students were used in politics this election season.

Nicor-Mangilimutan said she was informed that there were those who offered some senior high school students with scholarship reportedly under the Commission on Higher Education (Ched).

It prompted her to seek an inquiry from Ched to validate the said offer, as she knew that senior high school students are under the Department of Education.

Nicor-Mangilimutan said she can even provide food and transportation to the students if indeed it was a legit offering from Ched.

But she found out that students who want to proceed to college and want to avail the scholarship can just download the forms via Ched’s website online or can directly go to their office to inquire.

“Some are using young minds in their propaganda. It is my duty and responsibility as mayor of this town to protect my people,” the mayor said.

Nicor-Mangilimutan also said that there were some residents who were deceived about the use of Malasakit cards for their health needs.

She stressed that there is no need for a Malasakit card because all indigents in the community or those qualified to avail the health program can benefit from it.

It is a program of the Department of Health, she said.

If there is really a need for a card, therefore my office should be informed about it to make it proper and legal, she added.

She said “nobody in the town was authorized by Ched to distribute applications for scholarship nor by any government agency to issue Malasakit cards.”

She considered those deceptions as strategies this election period.

“I’m not perfect but I’m aiming to provide better services to my constituents and this is not politics,” she said.

“We should do things which can satisfy our constituents and not used them for other means,” she added.

She told the people of La Castellana to be responsible and observant. (GYM)
