LTFRB urged to require proof of drivers’ trainings

BACOLOD City Councilor Dindo Ramos urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to require all the operators to show proof that their drivers complied with trainings and seminars.

Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation, said on Sunday, April 21, that before the issuance of franchise, the LTFRB should require the operators to submit proof that their drivers underwent trainings and seminars.

Aside from LTFRB, he said the Land Transportation Office should also be consistent in requiring trainings and seminars for the driver’s license applicant, new or renewal.

“We should require them for their own safety as well as for the passengers,” he added.

Ramos noted that on April 15, a woman died while 40 others were injured after a Ceres Liner bus fell on its side in Purok Kapayas, Barangay Pacol, Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Ramos said the Ceres bus driver should also observe their speed especially while within the vicinity of Bacolod.

“They should comply with the speed limit to avoid similar accident,” he said.

He added it has been observed that some Ceres bus drivers failed to comply the speed limit while within the vicinity of Bacolod.

Ramos disclosed that traffic enforcers should also implement the law to arrest the violators. (MAP)
