Bacolod hires 2,130 ‘summer jobbers’

THE City of Bacolod has hired 2,130 youth for the summer jobs program with the support of Special Program for the Employment Students (Spes) of the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).

Maria Rebecca Balicas, head of Public Employment Services Office (Peso), said the summer jobbers will be deployed in the 61 barangays on Monday, April 22, for a data gathering.

Of 2,130 summer jobbers, 2,000 of them will be paid fully by the City Government from April 22 to May 6.

The remaining 130 summer jobbers, who will work from April 22 to May 22, will get 60 percent of their pay from Dole and 40 percent from the City Government.

All of them will be paid P478 per day.

Balicas said they started their orientation last week for the assignment of the youth.

She said there will be a leader assigned in every group that will be deployed in the 61 barangays for data gathering as part of the Local Market Information requirement that will be submitted to Dole.

“We will determine the percentage of the unemployed, employed and undergraduate residents here,” she added.

Last year, the City Government also hired 1,300 youth for the summer job program.

Balicas pointed out that this program aims to help the students on their tuition fee for the school opening this year.

Balicas disclosed that the summer jobbers will receive their salary once they submitted their daily time record. (MAP)
