2 fire incidents hit NegOcc during Holy Week

A MAN was injured while trying to help put out a fire that razed several houses in La Carlota City in Negros Occidental during the Holy Week.

On Friday night, April 19, a man sustained bruises after he fell from a roof while helping some residents put out the fire which destroyed six houses and damaged four others in Barangay RSB, La Carlota City.

Chief Inspector Rodel Legaspi, city fire marshal, said the man who is not from the said village volunteered to help but the foundation of the house, where he was situated was damaged by the fire which caused him to fall. The man is out of danger.

Legaspi said they received a call for assistance at 8:02 p.m. and immediately responded.

Augmentation from neighboring areas of San Enrique, Pontevedra, Hinigaran, and La Castellana also responded.

Legaspi said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire but raised the possibility that it may have been caused by an unattended candle or an unattended makeshift kitchen.

The fire destroyed an estimated P600,000 worth of properties. It was put out after 28 minutes.

The following day, another fire destroyed 20 houses and damaged another house in Purok Kabulakan Dos, Barangay Singcang-Airport, this city at 2:20 a.m.

Chief Inspector Publio Doctora Ploteña, city fire marshal, said the fire broke out in the room of Mary Grace Lopez in a two-story house owned by Rey Lopez Sr.

Ploteña said they have yet to determine the cause of fire but some residents told arson investigators that Lopez’s partner may have set fire to the house due to their misunderstanding.

Despite such allegations, Ploteña said they cannot file an arson case against Lopez’s partner until they can find sufficient evidence to prove the claim of the residents.

Damage was estimated at P200,000.

The fire was put out at 3:12 a.m. No casualties were reported. (GYM)
