Extortionist, kidnapper arrested

TWO persons were arrested in separate entrapment operations for extortion and alleged kidnapping.

Personnel of the Police Regional Office (PRO)-Cordillera arrested last week businesswoman Marlet Wagsi Balao, 46, of Barangay Alno, La Trinidad, after allegedly extorting money from farmer Avelina Camel Pagaduan, 60, of Poblacion, Tuba, Benguet.

Prior to Balao's arrest, the victim informed the police that a certain “Ador” was extorting money from her. The victim said she was told to drop the money in a grocery store.

A marked money worth to P8,000 and a cellular phone were confiscated from Balao.

In another entrapment operation, Romelo Alberto Bero, 39, a native of Urdaneta, Pangasinan, was arrested in Purok 8, Badihoy Guisad, Baguio City.

Bero was reported to have been physically abusing his live-in partner and locking her with her child in an inn along Kayang Street, Baguio City.

The victim managed to jump out through the window, leaving her child. She immediately informed the police about the incident.

The victim told police that Bero texted her to meet him in a certain place so she could get the child.

Police then conducted an entrapment operation that resulted in Bero's arrest.

Twelve sachets of substance believed to be shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) and three pieces of aluminum foil strips were seized from Bero.
