Election ban delays cash assistance to fire victims

FAMILIES affected by the fire in Purok Kabulakan Dos, Barangay Singcang-Airport in Bacolod City on Saturday will receive financial assistance from the City Government after the election ban.

Pacita Tero, head of Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD), said Monday, April 22, those whose houses were destroyed will receive P10,000 each while those with damaged houses will receive P5,000.

She said the city can release the financial assistance after the election ban.

On Saturday, the fire destroyed 28 houses and damaged two others.

As of April 22, the DSSD recorded a total of 36 families were affected with a total of 180 individuals.

Tero said they are still finalizing the total affected families so they can start process the requirements for the release of the financial assistance.

The DSSD head said there was no identified evacuation area because most of the affected families preferred to stay with their relatives in the nearby villages.

She added the foods assistance were already turned over to the affected families through the Philippine Res Cross- Bacolod-Negros Occidental Chapter.

For those who are willing to help, the social workers are accepting donations at DSSD office at the Bacolod Government Center. (MAP)
