Police operations net 946 ‘criminals’ in five days

THE anti-criminality campaign of the Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 resulted in the arrest of 946 persons who are allegedly involved in illegal drugs, illegal gambling and other crimes during the Holy Week.

The synchronized enhanced managing police operation (Sempo) dubbed as “Huli-Holy Week” was conducted in Cebu and other provinces in Central Visayas from April 17 to 21.

The PRO 7 and its lower units initiated 673 operations.

Police arrested 266 persons involved in illegal drugs and seized P6.2 million worth of shabu. Only 18 suspects were identified as street-level pushers.

The operatives also arrested 479 persons for illegal gambling and 170 persons who have pending cases in courts, nine of whom are in the most wanted list.

They visited the houses of persons who failed to renew the expired licenses of their firearms. They caught 29 persons and seized 209 loose firearms.

Police Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, the PRO 7 director, said they conducted the “Huli-Holy Week” to show that they don’t lie low in their campaign against criminality during holidays. (From FMD of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
