Guv condemns killing of village official

MISAMIS Oriental Governor Yevgeny Emano has condemned the killing of Napaliran, Balingasag village chief Claver Miral and called on police to swiftly solve the Easter Sunday gun attack.

Emano has directed Provincial Police Director Rolando Destura to hasten the probe and bring the assailants to justice.

"Talagsaon man nga kaso o dili, duna may kalabotan sa politika o wala, angayan nga tutukan kini nga kaso sa kapolisan, kinsa dunay kagahum sa pagsulbad sa insidente," Emano said.

(Whether it is a rare case or not, whether politically-related or not, it's befitting that the police need to look at it closely since they have the power to solve the incident.)

Investigation revealed that two gunmen ambushed Miral in Punta Gorda, Hermano, Balingasag while he was on his way home from Jasaan. The village chief sustained five gunshot wounds from a 9mm pistol.

Police already ruled out politics as motive in the killing but investigators are looking into business and personal as angles.

"The slain subject is actively engaged in real estate business," said Police Lieutenant Colonel Surki Sereñas, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao.

"On the personal angle, there were testimonies from the victim himself before he died and those who know him that leads investigators to believe that there is a personal angle that needs further investigation," he added.

Police are still collecting pieces of evidence that would lead to the identification of the gunmen.
