Labor, Trade departments ink partnership

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Davao in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Davao will continue the integration of job fair, business opportunities and livelihood assistance through the 2019 Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan (TNK) on May 1, 2019.

TNK is a flagship program of the administration which aims to provide a blueprint for decent job creation through employment and entrepreneurship. In 2018, 82 MSMEs inquired about access to finance while 57 availed the business consultancy services.

This year, Dole and DTI are targeting the remaining 4.5 percent unemployment rate in Davao Region through the extending job fair to livelihood and business opportunities.

Dole-Davao assistant director Jason Balais said during the memorandum of agreement (MOA) with Dole-Davao and other partners on Monday, April 23, that the agencies are trying to give options for people to seek a job or start a small business.

“We ought to give the people not only job opportunities but also opportunities for entrepreneurial and livelihood undertakings to give options to have a job available or start small business on their own or even those seeking livelihood assistance,” Balais said.

“The highlight of the event will be the trabaho, negosyo at kabuhayan (TNK). What used to be the job fair only now extends to business and livelihood fair,” he said, referring to the 2019 TNK fair on May 1-2 at Gaisanao Mall, Bajada Davao.

Balais said it has always been the desire of DOLE to bring more jobs to the people as they aim for higher employment rate.

A total of 7,983 job vacancies will be available for jobseekers while the DTI 11 will also give skills and entrepreneurial trainings such as Green Economy Practices and Flower Arrangement on May 1, and Social Media Marketing on the next day.

DTI SME development division chief Marie Anne How said that the integration would help individuals who might not find fit as an employee and ventures the business industry instead.
