Hunat Sugbo goes green in 2019

THIS year’s Hunat Sugbo: Dagan Para ni Maning 2019 will take on a pro-environment stance as they will be barring the use of single-use plastic for their event on June 23.

The organizers are encouraging the participants to bring their own hydration bottles to minimize garbage during the event.

“Environmental concerns are so pressing nowadays. That’s why we came up with this new advocacy,” said Parklane’s general manager Cenelyn Manguilimotan.

Manguilimotan said that they will still secure paper cups but it would be better if the runners will bring their own bottles because according to her, though paper cups are better than plastic cups, they are still added to the pile of garbage.

“We notice that after every race, there is a lot of trash and we really want it to be different for the Hunat. At the least, we really should leave no trace,” said Manguilimotan.

This year, the Hunat Sugbo will have the 3K, 6K, 12K and 21K divisions, with the route to Talamban.

Joel Baring, Hunat Sugbo race director, stated the starting area is in the Biliran Road and going out to Escario Street via Mindanao Avenue.

The 6K, 12K, and 21K will then go straight to the Capitol area with the 6K having its turning point in front of the Lahug barangay hall. The 12K runners will have their turning point underneath the flyover at Maria Luisa Junction, while the 21K runners will head to Talamban and head down to Barangay Cabancalan for their turning point in front of the Lua D. building.

Nicanor Nacorda, Hunat Sugbo chairman, said they are expecting 3,000 participants since they are going for quality not quantity. He also said runners should register early. Registration fee is P400 for the 3K, P500 for the 6K, P750 for the 12K and P900 for the 21K.

Registration starts on April 26 at the lobby of Cebu Parklane International Hotel from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. They will also have registration booths at SM City Cebu on May 27 to June 9, and at Ayala Center Cebu on June 10 to June 21. (JML)
