Veterans dominate Le Minerale Fun Run

VETERAN Ruffa Sorongon added another feather to her growing cap after winning the Le Minerale Dagan sa Kadaugan at the Mactan Shrine last April 21.

Sorongon crossed the finish line during the Easter Sunday run in 43:26, 21 seconds ahead of closest pursuer Lizane Abella to win the P10,000 cash prize in the female 26-35 division. Abella got the P5,000 purse, while Janice Valentin, who finished the race in 51:44, got P3,000 for third place.

In the women’s 36-above division, Presciosa Sanchez was in a class of her own as she got first place in 51:33, more than three minutes ahead of second placer Rosalinda Cosino (54:56). Katherine Ericson got third place in 55:27.

In the 15-25 division, Evanie Villarin got first place in 43:01, while Melody Perez was a distant second in 44:04. Cherry Andrin got third place in 46:07.

On the other hand, regular winners Prince Joey Lee and Eric Chepsiror also came out triumphant in their divisions.

Lee ruled the 15-25 division in 35:06, beating Ariel Saballa (37:19) and Azlan Pagoy (37:40), while Chepsiror won the 36-above division in 36:46, beating Michael Largo and Engbino Sano.

Florendo Lhiz won the 25-35 division in 35:36, just nine seconds ahead of Joseph Arnel Emia. Noel Tillor got third place in 36:42.

Aside from the 10K, the cash-rich run which only had a P50 registration fee, also had the 5K division for the men and women with 3-age groups each.

Mohammad Sherwin Managil won the 5K 36-above in 20:40, beating Raomito Tucyo (21:20) and Michael Saplad (22:29), while Ian refuela ruled the 26-35 division in 18:23, beating Helbert Elarcosa (18:26) and Robert Daang (18:57). In the 15-25 division, Erl Peonila got first place in 17:51 over Rinmark GOnzaga (18:06) and Jovan Bensig (18:19).

In the female division, Margarita Planca won the 36-above title in 27:33 over Lorena Magbanwa (28:17) and Jurilyn Solis (28:38), while Marie Stephan Yason won the 26-35 class in 24:30. She beat Jelma Monsanto (25:01) and Azalea de Jesus (26:10). Karen Manayon won the 15-25 class in 20:51 over Moria Erediano (21:03) and Princess Jive Borneo (31:28).

In the 3K, the top three best runners are James Janzel Noval (12:47), Jesry Cruz (13:10) and Ian Dominic Planas (13:18). (ML)
