OCD: W. Visayas not ready for big quake

THE Office of the Civil Defense (OCD)-Western Visayas warned that the whole Western Visayas is gill preparedh if a massive quake strikes the region.

OCD-Western Visayas director Jose Roberto Nu?ez made the revelation following the 6.5-magnitude earthquake that struck Eastern Samar on Tuesday. Mild tremors were also felt in Bacolod City and Negros Occidental but no damages were reported.

Nu?ez advises the public to always take seriously the earthquake drills being conducted by the government in order to avoid possible harm should the real one occurs.

He said majority of the local government units (LGUs) in the region lack the proper equipment if a massive quake takes place as most of the LGUs rescue units do not have the proper training to handle emergencies such as extracting injured and trapped individuals from collapsed buildings.

The OCD-Western director said he plans on releasing a memorandum ordering all LGUs in Western Visayas to conduct immediate and stricter inspection of all buildings.
