Bzzzzz: What the Luigi camp did not tell in official reaction to NQ's rejection of his grandson

PEOPLE are talking about...

* PNP TESTS ON SILAWAN. The police, through PNP regional chief Debold Sinas, says they're "on the right path" in the theory on the March 10 murder of Christine Silawan, the 16-year-old coed in Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City.

DNA test on scissors and on Silawan and suspect Renato Llenes: check. Polygraph test: not lying. Psychological test: not crazy.

Time to clear that 17-year-old suspect (per NBI and PAO theory)?

* JUNARD 'AHONG' CHAN STILL HAS NO CLEARANCE from Comelec that there's nothing wrong with his candidacy. He went to the Comelec the other week for a certification that his COC was all right. But apparently, he failed to get the document he wanted. Instead, at his press-con, he alleged a plan by his rival to ambush and kill him.

What they didn't say

The camp of Mandaue City Mayor Luigi Quisumbing, responding to the public announcement of his grandfather business tycoon Norberto Quisumbing Jr., Thursday (April 25) said that even NQ is not above the law.

NQ Wednesday (April 24) formally publicized, in a full-page newspaper advertisement, that he was endorsing and "putting his vote" on Representative Jonas Cortes and other members of Team Mandaue in this May election, rejecting his grandson Luigi's bid for reelection as city mayor.

No one is above the law. That was why, Luigi said, he ordered in February last year the closure of the bar and lounge owned by Kyle Quisumbing Bravante, son of the mayor's aunt Pinky. He also said that Sentral B & L was being suspected of dispensing party drugs.

Two major things Luigi didn't say in his response but somehow were leaked out to the media and the rumor circuit:

* The mayor had feared there would be greater embarrassment if law enforcers would bust the B&L and charge the owners with illegal drugs trafficking. The shame to the family would be bigger. The closure was ostensibly for ordinance violations. The owners were not told that PDEA and police were closing the net on alleged drug trafficking in the leisure club. Apparently, Luigi was not forthright with his grandpa and his aunt, maybe to shield them from the awkward situation.

* Information reached some broadcasters, some of whom aired it, that NQ had not been as generous in his financial help to Luigi in his past campaigns as widely believed. Often, one broadcast said, the grandpa didn't deliver promised funds, which spoiled campaign strategy and moves. That must be the reason that this year, the Luigi camp has relied more on other sources than on NQ. If the businessman did that to his grandson, how much more to Jonas who is not related to NQ, the broadcaster asked. Maybe out of spite against Luigi, this time NQ would be more generous to Jonas.

Didn't talk to each other

Priests and family counselors who are saddened by the spectacle of two prominent persons -- a granddad and his grandson -- squabbling over family differences may be quick to point out the fault: Luigi and NQ were not talking to each other as much as they should be on the issue of the bar's closure.

Luigi didn't tell the real reason the bar owned by the aunt's son: the alleged trafficking of party drugs in the establishment.

What may have impeded the flow of communication was that Pinky, Luigi's aunt, had better access to NQ as she was reportedly the one attending to the businessman in the family home. NQ will turn 89 this August 31.
