Designers to talk about eco-friendly buildings in Sugbo Furniture Fair

THE Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID)-Cebu Chapter will tackle several issues, including the green building design, as part of its seminar to be held at The Furniture City’s Sugbo Furniture Fair on Saturday, April 27.

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde engineering director Arnaldo Ocfemia will serve as the guest speaker.

According to PIID Cebu Chapter president Ryan James Mantuhac, the seminar is useful for them to keep up with the new trends in interior design and inform themselves of the latest standards.

The seminar-workshop, which usually takes five to six days, will be compressed into one day with eight general topics—energy and the environment, sustainable and responsive sites, material sustainability, indoor environmental quality, water and wastewater management, climate change resiliency, construction organization and management and building operations management.

Mantuhac said the public can visit the fair (April 26-28) at The Furniture City on Hernan Cortes St. in Mandaue City.

Real estate developer Paramount Properties is one of the participants in the fair.

In its involvement in the fair, Paramount Properties will highlight its latest development—the Wellington, which is located at the hillside landscape of Barangay Cogon, Compostela.

The Wellington is the company’s first project in northern Cebu. The project adheres to the principles of biophilic design and is dedicated to bringing a family’s connection to nature back into one’s home and back into the community’s living spaces.

The open house event of the Wellington, which carries the theme “Reconnecting nature with our living space,” is scheduled to open at 1 p.m. Friday, April 26.

As to the PIID-Cebu Chapter’s seminar, it coincides with the fair’s theme of urban lifestyle design and setting.

The Furniture City’s 25 permanent companies are displaying in lifestyle or semi-lifestyle booths in its wide, two-storey showroom.

During the course of the fair, these companies will display their latest designs for the interior designers.
