5,000 jobs up for grabs

MORE than 5,000 vacancies will be available to jobseekers at a local job fair initiated by the Provincial Public Employment Service Office (Peso) on Labor Day, May 1.

The screening and interview is scheduled to start at 7 a.m. at the social hall of the Capitol building in Cebu City.

Julius Chua, labor and employment officer, said 41 companies have confirmed their participation in the event.

Some available jobs include sales staff, cashiers, clerks, customer service representatives and service crew or attendants.

Chua said companies that are in the wholesale and retail industry, automobile repair and household merchandise trade have the biggest need of human resources. They need to fill 1,092 vacancies.

Manufacturing firms also need 1,071 workers while construction firms have 965 jobs available. Information and communication firms are offering 964 jobs while human health and social work activities are offering 364 jobs. The accommodation and food service sector also needs to fill 279 vacancies, transportation and storage firms are in need of 178 workers and financial and insurance activities are offering 108 jobs.

Since the registration for the job fair began, Chua said only a little over 100 jobseekers have listed their names at Peso. (From SCG of SuperBalita Cebu, KAL)
