A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy died while his grandparents were injured after a fire hit their house in Barangay Pakigne, Minglanilla on Friday morning, April 26.
After firefighters were able to put out the fire, they discovered the burnt body of Justin Parsacala, 7, lying of what remains of his bedroom.
The fire, which began around 10:30 a.m., started at the room of Engr. Nazario Parsacala, the child's grandfather.
Their house is situated in Belmont Village, a subdivision situated in Barangay Pakigne.
Fire Officer 1 Fulbert Navarro of the Minglanilla Fire Station said Nazario and his wife Virginia were in their living room when their personal fire alarm system suddenly detected smoke.
Upon checking his bedroom, Nazario found that the fire has already started to become bigger and decided to run to his grandson's room to get him out.
But as Nazario tried to open the door to his grandson's room, he couldn't do so.
Nazario and his wife decided to quickly exit the house as fire have started to engulf his room and that of his grandson's.
The child's parents were not present during the fire as they were at work.
The fire was raised to second alarm.
Navarro said he and other firefighters were able to put out the fire at around 11:45 a.m.
Nazario and his wife had to be brought to the Minglanilla District Hospital after he sustained second degree burns on both his arms and back.
His wife was also brought to the hospital after complaining of shortness of breath.
Though they suspect that the fire may have been electrical in nature, Navarro said they need to conduct a more deeper investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.
The fire damage was pegged at P100,000. (JKV)
