Ateneo blanks USC in Hyundai Champions League

DEFENDING champion Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu opened its title retention bid on a strong note after blanking Cebu North: University of San Carlos, 2-0, in the Hyundai Champions League at its home field last April 26.

Ateneo shares the lead in Group B at three points with Don Bosco Blue but the hosts were set to play the visiting San Carlos City:Gannet at press time last April 26.

On April 27, Mandaue City will close out its group stage against DB Blue, which replaced Tacloban City in the tournament. DB Blue also won its opening match, 1-0, against San Carlos City and will have two games against Cebu North:USC and Ateneo on April 27.

In Group A, the Cebu South:DBTC drew Cebu Province: KNF-Don Bosco Boys Home, 1-1, while Negros: Sagay City routed Bohol: Gaher FC, 3-1.

Cebu Province:KNF-DBBH finally bagged its first win of the day after blanking Negros: Sagay City to take the temporary lead in Group A.

KNF will gun for its second win against Bohol:Gaher FC on Saturday, while Cebu South DBTC will take on Bohol and Negros today. A win in both games could see DBTC advancing to the semifinals along with KNF. (ML)
