DepEd scouts lots to relocate high schools

THE Department of Education (DepEd) through the City Schools Division Office has been scouting for lots where to relocate existing high schools that have been occupying on elementary campuses.

Dr. Felix Romy Triambulo, City Schools Division superintendent, made the announcement as he said there were attempts to open junior high schools in some barangays, most of which, however, are within the elementary schools.

These are in the villages of Calabasa, Buenavista, Lamisahan, Latap, Camp Susana, Rio Hondo, Tumaga, Sapa Manok, Landang Gua, and Arena Blanco.

Of these 10 high schools, Triambulo said only Landang Gua National High School has found a new site, a one hectare lot donated to DepEd and the city government has constructed a two-storey eight-classroom building, but not enough for its more than 800 students.

“We are working for the rest of the schools like Latap with identified site, and Camp Susana is banking on DENR (Department of Environment and Natural Resources) to grant a stewardship for a one-hectare lot,” he said.

He also said the DepEd-central office approved his request for school sites acquisition funds amounting to P145 million to be used for the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School-Tumaga Annex, Manicahan Poblacion Elementary School, Limpapa National High School-Latap Annex and the proposed high school in the village of Tugbungan.
