Viray: Liberato 'Levy' P. Laus: The Architect of Dolores City

(This article was originally published in the year 2005)

HIS name is a synonymous with letter L. He is liberated (Liberato) as well as liberal minded and yes, he is a Lancer. He is the chivalrous man armed with a lance — the lance is a symbol for his pet project, Dolores City.

Dolores used to be a cogon-infested place. Now, it is the heart of the city, the site of well-manicured business offices. The coming of the giant retail stores, Shoemart and Robinson perks a feverish rush to progress. Indeed, Dolores has grown by leaps and bounds in the last decade.

A large part of the credit goes to this leader. As president of the San Fernando Jaycees, he spearheaded the lighting of this portion of the city. As Chief Operating Officer of the Laus Group of Companies, he established the biggest showroom in South East Asia in this raw land.

The Carworld Inc., the flagship of his businesses proudly reigns in this area. He invited his friend-investors to come and the result is the ten-fold rise of the market value of the real estate. Banks have sprouted like mushrooms -- a testament to the phenomenal growth of the place. It has become a city within a city. For this, Levy rightly owns the distinction of seeing the coming of age of Dolores.

Levy, the debonair founder of several business concerns, has gone a long way. Starting his career as a lowly clerk in a bank, he resigned and founded the Laus Marketing in the 70's. At that time, he was practically a one-man army, selling, documenting and delivering products all by his lonesome. He struggled and worked day and night. He steadily ascended the ladder of success. He discovered that he has the Midas touch. Whatever he touched literally turned into gold. He revolutionized the car business in Central Luzon. First known as Mr. Mitsubishi Lancer, now he is also known as Mr. Ford, Mr. Chevy, Mr. Pride and Mr. BMW. Name it, he has it. He revolutionized car dealership so much that a customer had in his fingertips the type of vehicle he fancied.

We have lost count of the companies he founded and they all prospered under his able stewardship:

Carworld — Mitsubishi Inc.

Corporate Guarantee and Insurance Company Inc.

Global Cars, Inc. (Ford Pampanga, Ford Libis, Ford Cabanatuan, Ford Dagupan)

Pampanga Premier Cars, Inc. (BMW Franchise)

North Luzon Autocity, Inc. (General Motors Franchise)

Kia Pampanga

Suzuki Auto Pampanga

Car Mix, Inc.

LGC Estate Resources, Inc.

Comtrust Finance and Investment Corp.

Tire City Goodyear Servitek

Radioworid Broadcasting Corporation

Regent Printing House, Inc.

SunStar Pampanga

MTL Foods, Inc. (Max's Restaurant Franchise in 5 locations)

Huper Optik Philippines

Pampanga Automotive Resources Corporation (Hyundai Balintawak, Hyundai, Dagupan)

Ssyangyong Pampanga

His expertise has been so recognized by no less than the Arroyo administration that he was tapped to be a member of the Board of Directors of the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), Fort Bonifacio Corporation and Bataan Technology Park.

In 1990, no wonder it was then he became the recipient of the Most Outstanding Kapampangan Award in the field of Business with Civic Consciousness. The Municipality of San Fernando (now City) extolled him as Corporate Par Excellence (Most Outstanding Fernandino).

As a law-abiding citizen, he pays his taxes correctly as evidenced by his citation as one among the top taxpayers in the region. He gives to Ceasar what is Ceasar's.

Side by side with his business acumen is his soft spot for the indigents and the needy. He is the man behind a scholarship program that sends deserving but poor students to college. More than this, he hires the services of the scholars upon graduation.

He is a friend in need. When Prosecutor Roman (Romy) Razon, his high school classmate, suffered a massive stroke and his bills mounted, Levy was on his bedside providing financial and moral support. Romy is still alive and laughing because of friends like Levy.

Now at age 55, there is no indication that Levy is resting on his laurels. Blessed with his charming wife, Ma. Theresa Laus and five children, namely, Paul, Lissette, Carisa, LA and Diorela, he spends quality time with them.

Levy is a visionary, a philanthropist, a taipan and a compassionate friend. His complete name is Liberato Laus y Policarpio.

Note: Yesterday April 25, 2019, Levy joined His Creator and welcomed in heaven by his well-loved father, Ceferino Laus and bossom friend, Roman Razon.
