NBI probes abduction of retired cop

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Bacolod City is conducting a separate investigation on the abduction of retired Police Major Lito Pirote.

NBI-Bacolod head Renoir Baldovino, said Friday, April 26, Pirote’s family went to his office on Thursday to ask the help of the bureau on the case.

Baldovino said they have started their parallel investigation and they are continuously gathering evidence and facts about the incident.

Pirote, who retired from the police service in January, has been missing for a week now, after he was abducted by three unidentified armed men outside a hotel in Bacolod City on April 19.

His abduction was earlier linked to illegal drunks by Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde, following the inclusion of his name in the drug matrix of President Rodrigo Duterte in 2018.

However, one of Pirote’s children, denied the retired cop’s alleged involvement in illegal drugs and even the inclusion of his name in the drug matrix, following the recent dismissal of his drug case for lack of evidence.

The Bacolod City Police Office is having difficulty in identifying the abductors because of insufficiency of evidence and lack of witnesses.

Baldovino said there is no need for them to coordinate with the local police since they will do their own investigation.
