THOUSANDS of residents in five villages in Tigbauan, Iloilo no longer have to face the danger of crossing the river or a slippery bamboo bridge when going to the town proper during rainy season.

On April 26, Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. led the inauguration of the 42-meter hanging steel footbridge in Barangay San Rafael. The project was worth P1.7 million and will benefit the neighboring barangays of Bayuco, Napnapan and Nagba.

Defensor also inaugurated the 40-meter hanging bridge in Barangay Jamog. It was worth P1.6 million.

Both projects were funded under the 20 percent development fund. The Municipal Government gave a counterpart of P100,000 and P400,000, respectively.

Consejo Analista, 66, of Barangay San Rafael, said that before, they have to wait for the water in the river to subside to reach the town.

“Now commuting is easier and faster. We thank the governor for helping us,” she said.

First district Board Member Renee Valencia and husband Municipal Councilor Dennis Valencia also graced the inauguration.

Board Member Valencia said Defensor has never rejected any of their project proposals for Tigbauan.

The Provincial Government has allotted P200,000 for the installation of solar lights in Barangay San Rafael. Another P360,000 was provided for the concreting of road in Barangay Bayuco.

Councilor Valencia said the province funded the completed Day Care Center in Barangay Jamog worth P300,000.

Last April 10, Defensor also inaugurated the 7.89-kilometer Parara-Jamog Provincial Road worth P87.4 million. It covers 20 barangays.

It is funded by the Department of Agriculture’s Philippine Rural Development Project.

The Provincial Government has a counterpart of 10 percent, while the Municipal Government gave P2 million. (PR)
