MORE than 16,000 job opportunities will be available for jobseekers of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental during the job and business fairs on the 117th commemoration of the Labor Day.
According to Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Northern Mindanao director Joffrey Suyao, they were able to record 16,798 job vacancies confirmed by participating employers for both local and overseas for the May 1 Mega Job and Livelihood Fair at the Atrium, Limketkai Center, in Cagayan de Oro City.
The available jobs are for the skilled, unskilled, formal and informal/technical.
Of the confirmed job vacancies, Suyao said 4,316 are for local employment from 51 participating private companies, mostly from the service industry.
The Dole-Northern Mindanao is expecting around 10,178 job vacancies for overseas employment generated from the 27 Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) accredited recruitment agencies.
Top local job vacancies are security guards, 1,000; factory workers, 300; call center officers, 200; customer service specialists, 120; and sales associates, 50, Dole said.
Majority of the overseas vacancies are for skilled workers as most of the overseas manpower services job posts are in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Germany and Japan.
Overseas job vacancies are cleaners, 1,000 for KSA; service crew, 200, general nurse, 114 for Germany and KSA; English teachers, 100 for Japan; and staff nurses, 100.
Apart from private companies and overseas employment, government agencies also posted job vacancies, such as Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) (1,501 job openings); Department of Social Welfare and Development (53 job openings); and Philippine Army (75 job vacancies).
There are no extraordinary requirements to be prepared by the jobseekers, Suyao said, highlighting the preparedness for interview and presentation of documents that may be asked which include, but not limited to, transcript of records, diploma, certificate of employment, certificate of training, and others.
Jobseekers simply need to meet the basic requirements of the prospective employers by being themselves and to showcase a full package of readiness of soon to be joiners of the labor force, he said.
Apart from the Mega Job Fair, there is also the Livelihood and Business Fair on May 1 to 2 held at the Rotunda in Limketkai Mall, wherein 20 livelihood projects in Northern Mindanao will be showcased.
The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda)-Northern Mindanao, meanwhile, will be conducting skills demonstration from the following Technical-Vocational Institutions (TVIs) in the province: Massa Foundation (facial care); Motormate (motorcycle repair); Sweet House (baking); FB Jamaican and COBSAT (coffee-making); and RTC Tagoloan (dressmaking).
A total of 51 private TVIs from Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental will join the free TVET enrollment.
Labor Day activities are also organized in each province of Northern Mindanao, such as: foot parade from Pine Hills Hotel to Kaamulan Folk Arts Theater, Malaybalay City; and a Family Welfare Fun Run on May 19 at the Capitol Grounds, Malaybalay City in partnership with the Bukidnon Federation of Family Welfare Committees.
In Iligan City, the Federation of Democratic Labor Organization, in cooperation of the DOLE Provincial Field Office (PFO) of Lanao del Norte, will be conducting a Eucharistic Mass followed by a foot parade around the city and short program to be held at the City Public Plaza. A one-day Labor Unions’/Organizations’ Seminar on social benefits to 80 union officers and members of the province on April 29 at the Ma. Cristina Hotel.
In Misamis Occidental, the Dole PFO of the province and the Misamis Occidental Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor hosted the pre-Labor Day Job Fair and orientation on DOLE’s livelihood programs on April 26 at Saint Michael’s High School, Tangub City.
There was also a learning session on Workplace Dispute Resolution: Managing your Human Resource to the Human Resource Officers of La Salle University, Ozamiz City.
The region-wide job and business fairs, according to Suyao, replicate the Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan (TNK) concept of DOLE and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), which aims to bring employment opportunities through entrepreneurship of workers in the informal sector or at the grassroot level.
The DOLE will be joined by the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC)-member agencies comprising of Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO), National Conciliation Mediation Board (NCMB), National Labor Relations Commission (NLRC) 8th Division and Regional Arbitration Branch, Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RWTPB), Employees Compensation Commission (ECC), Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC), Tesda, Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), and POEA through the One-Stop-Shop Desk.
The Dole advised the job applicants to pre-register at the Job Placement Bureau PESO in the second floor of the Cagayan de Oro City Hall.
Applicants can also register at 5 a.m. on May 1 at the Limketkai Atrium, along Magnum Express Office entrance.
