Daclan: A rising Bacoleña jin

YOUNG but tough and talented, this nine-year-old jin from St. Scholastica’s Academy is making her way of bringing honor not only to Bacolod but also for Negros Occidental.

Anika Daclan won another gold medal from the recently concluded Carlos Palanca Jr. National Taekwondo Championship held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila. This was her fourth straight award after copping the silver medal in the All Women’s National Taekwondo Tournament, bronze in the Best of the Best and gold in Dinagyang Taekwondo Championship in Iloilo.

The SSA mainstay is under the supervision of Vic Feria when in Bacolod and national team coach Roberto “Kitoy” Cruz in Manila.

Meanwhile, the Palanca tourney is one of the biggest and most prestigious taekwondo tournaments in the country participated by almost 800 jins.

This is also organized by the Philippine Taekwondo Association by Grandmaster Dung Chon Hong and Games and Committee chair Raul Samson which likewise served as the qualifying competition for the national standouts.
