MOST of us would agree that teaching is not that easy. It is a tough and difficult job. In reality, some would say that nobody gets rich in teaching. However, it is rewarding task when pupils have learned life’s lessons. Teaching them the right knowledge, skills, attitudes and values would make teachers rich maybe not in material things but in producing lifelong learners.

I have been in the public service as teacher for 13 years. The journey was tough but worth the travel. Now, another school year has ended.

Another batch of learners bade goodbye for they had completed another milestone in their lives. In moments like this, I am quite emotional especially when my pupils expressed their deep gratitude and appreciation for everything they have learned and acquired throughout the school year. I felt fulfilled and happy that I have made a difference and in one way or another, I was able to touch their lives.

Since April is a month of celebration–a special time for recognition and graduation. It is just right to reward learners for their performance in academics and co-curricular activities. It is harvesting time so to speak. Reaping the fruits of hard work is worth-celebrating for. As much that parents and learners were celebrating for success, I am also rejoicing. I considered it as job-well-done for me. As teacher, it was also my way of reaping fruits. These fruits were my learned pupils who will become future leaders someday. These pupils have gone through a lot in their studies. They were shaped and moulded to become productive and better citizens of the country.

The influence of a teacher is huge. It brings an important impact to children’s lives. Teachers can make or bring their future. That is why, the challenge is to plant good seeds of knowledge skills, attitudes and values-educating them in the best possible way because they deserve good education. It is on this way that we can reap good fruits. The harvest would surely be sweet! (Janice D. Montalvo, DepEd-Matina District)
