Health researchers to gather in Cebu

TO ADDRESS issues such as illegal drug dependency and sexually transmitted diseases, the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD) will hold its 4th Central Visayas Health Research and Innovation Conference at the Cebu Institute of Technology-University on May 9-10.

The “Research Innovations for Improved Health and Wellness” themed conference aims to tackle social dimensions of health and wellness, innovations on biomedical devices, and health and wellness.

Dr. Thelma Fernandez, vice chairperson of the Central Visayas Consortium for Health Research and Development (CVCHRD), said that the conference would bring together health researchers and potential researchers from all over the region.

“It would be a discussion of what they (students and new researchers) can contribute to the community if they follow in the footsteps of the current researchers,” she said.

The CVCHRD is one of the 17 regional health research and development consortia organized by the PCHRD and the Department of Science and Technology.

According to Dr. Manuel Emerson Donaldo, chairman of the CVCHRD Executive Committee, the conference would further one’s knowledge on the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and correct misconceptions on how it is spread.

He added that the dialogue would also talk about the medical advancements on the issue of illegal drug dependency.

The podium presentation is open for the professional and student category, and will be attended by around 300 participants. (WBS)
