NSE caps year with 1st ‘Moving Up Ceremony’

A YEAR ago, Korean national Kale Bak’s daughter can barely converse with other kids her age. By the time she finished her first academic year at the Newtown School of Excellence (NSE) in Mactan, her daughter can now speak better English—a proud milestone that she shared with the world via a heartfelt Facebook post.

Bak was among the parents who were beaming with pride at the Waterfront Hotel recently as 20 NSE Kinder 2 students moved up to the next level of their academic ladder.

“In our first year, we welcomed 66 students of different nationalities and from different walks of life. In the coming years, we will definitely see further improvement and advancement not only in terms of our physical structure but in our means to achieve holistic development,” said Newtown School of Excellence president Noli D. Hernandez, in a speech delivered in front of the NSE preschool pupils and their parents.

From Kinder 2, these pupils are now moving up to Grade 1. Enrolment is now ongoing for elementary levels from Grades 1-3 for the school year 2019-2020. With the aim of achieving academic excellence and proficiency, NSE’s curriculum offers subjects that include Science, Math, Filipino, CLE, MAPE, Reading, Language, Computer and Writing.

“Our school founded in Christian Living Principles values integrity, hardwork, excellence and social responsibility, and aims to integrate these in the academe’s culture and development,” Hernandez further stated.

Occupying a hectare at The Mactan Newtown—Megaworld’s integrated live-work-play township in Cebu—this educational institution primarily caters to those who call TMN their home, as well as the expat community and residents of Lapu-Lapu City. The school, supervised by the Lasallian Schools Supervision Office (Lasso), features two main buildings: the single-storey Kindergarten Building composed of three classrooms, a library, playground, and the four-storey elementary building. The latter features 13 classrooms, computer rooms, library and learning resource center, science laboratories, multipurpose court, clinic, as well as its own mini dining hall. (PR)
