PNP to review vetting process for security agencies

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) will be reviewing the vetting process for security agencies following the arrest of an alleged member of the Abu Sayyaf Group who worked as a security guard in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

On April 24, authorities arrested Al Demar Saiyari y Muri alias Ali who has a standing arrest warrant for kidnapping and 21 counts of serious illegal detention with ransom.

Saiyari was allegedly involved in a kidnapping case in Sipadan, Malaysia in April 2000.

Police said the suspect was positively identified by one of their victims in a sworn affidavit wherein he said a certain Ali and Al-Demar Saiyari is one and the same person who served as close-in guard during the kidnapping incident.

"We have to investigate also the agency bakit sila tumatanggap ng merong warrant of arrest. Remember, 'yung warrant niya is existing so how come nakapasok siya as security guard," Albayalde said.

"That is very dangerous. Parang walang vetting na ginagawa o background investigation 'yung security agency na 'yun," he added. (Third Anne Peralta-Malonzo/SunStar Philippines)
