Lawmaker saddened over state of politics in City of San Fernando

FORMER City of San Fernando mayor and 3rd District Rep. Oscar "Oca" Rodriguez said he is saddened by how the mayoralty contest in the city is being played, adding that it has become a political race to win "at all cost."

Rodriguez said that he is appalled by the black propaganda that is now being mobilized on social media.

The mayoralty contest here is a race between incumbent Edwin Santiago and the popular newcomer Dolores Barangay Captain Vilma Caluag.

Rodriguez appealed to San Fernando voters to use their better judgement amid the political noise to choose the best candidate to lead the city.

Asked on who he thinks should win the mayoralty race, Rodriguez responded: "That is a difficult question that warrants a very long answer."

Rodriguez said that he cannot publicly express his political sentiments as he is torn between party lines. He also expressed sadness that the legacy programs that he placed for the city “have all been set aside”.

Rodriguez said he has been in talks with various leaders, local businessmen and sectoral groups, after they expressed disappointment and dissatisfaction over the ongoing situation in the city. He added the results the mayoralty contest will greatly determine the development of the city in the next years to come.

"People should make a wise choice. I believe the residents of the city are wise enough to make that choice," Rodriguez added.
