CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The city government of San Fernando enjoined Monday, April 29, the community in lowering the Philippine flags at half-mast in honor of the late LausGroup of Companies Chief Executive Officer Levy P. Laus.

Mayor Edwin Santiago, upon consultation with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, signed Executive Order (EO) No. CMO219-019 to officially honor the contributions of Laus, and mourn his untimely demise.

The EO noted Laus as a civic leader and a recipient of The Outstanding Fernandino Awards in 2009 that “was instrumental in supporting the city’s efforts in economic development and heritage preservation.”

“Mr. Laus, as a highly civic-minded person, was one of the founders of the disaster-management group, Save San Fernando Movement, which pushed for the construction of a protective dike to stop lahar and save the city from total damage,” the EO read.

The EO also recognized Laus as “one of the most accomplished and most awarded Filipino businessmen of his generation, and undoubtedly a champion of countryside development with visionary zeal.”

It also noted of his leadership as chairman emeritus of the Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc., which, under his helm, promoted countryside development as the best way to expand growth.

“Mr. Laus, always armed with a vision and inspired by the love for his hometown, was the man behind the creation of the San Fernando, Pampanga Heritage Foundation, one of the pioneers in the heritage preservation campaign in the city,” a portion of the EO reads.

It added: “The lowering of the National Flag at half-mast is a fitting tribute or means to thank Mr. Laus in his honor for his dedicated social and civic service.”
