Disaster management office intensifies inspection, earthquake drill

THE Bacolod City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) has intensified its inspections, lectures and earthquake drill in various business establishments in the city.

Dondon Parandas, head of DRRMO, said Tuesday, April 30, that they already inspected several business establishments at the downtown area, as well as malls after the recent 6.5-magnitude earthquake that it Eastern Samar on April 23.

"There was no reported damage on the building structures, but we advised the building owners to inform us immediately if they saw some cracks or damage on their buildings after the earthquake," he said.

The building will be re-inspected again by the Office of the Building Official and City Engineer's Office to determine its stability.

Parandas said the business establishment owners should also orient their personnel to be ready in case of possible earthquake scenario.

"We already conducted lectures and earthquake drill in some business establishments as well as in schools and malls. We also expect more requests from commercial business establishments to conduct the same for the safety of everybody," he said.

Parandas said it is very important to know what to do before, during and after of earthquake scenario.

"So we should take it seriously (earthquake drill) because it's not a joke. We should be ready at all times," Parandas said.
