Davraa booters, spikers, cagers win

Davao Region (Davraa) elementary boys booters and secondary boys spikers posted their second straight wins while the cagers drew first blood in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa 2019 as of Tuesday, April 30.

Davraa shutout Central Luzon (CLRAA), 4-0, after crushing Caraga, on the same note, 4-0, in the elementary boys football event at Tionko field.

Davraa’s secondary boys booters, meanwhile, defeated CLRAA, 1-0, Monday after forcing a scoreless draw with Central Visayas.

Over at the Davao City-UP Sports Complex Multi-purpose Gym, the Davraa secondary boys volleyball team outlasted Cordillera Administrative Region (CARAA), 30-28, 25-16, after surviving past Mimaropa Region, 26-28, 25-23, 26-24.

In basketball, Palaro 2018 silver medal performer Vince Petdeo Cuajao and Miguelito Manuel led Davraa Eagles’ rousing 110-60 victory over Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (Barmaa) at the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) Gym in their first game.

Cuajao and Manuel scored identical 19 baskets.

Davraa assistant coach Roger Rabago, in an interview, said they have to win as much points in every game to ensure an upperhand whenever there is a triple tie in their bracket.

“Gi-rotate jud tanang players kay aron dili sad mahago kay gipangandaman namo ang Central Luzon sa Wednesday (We rotated all players so as not to burden them since we will be facing a tough opponent in Central Luzon on Wednesday),” he said.

The Nestor Sorrosa-coached Davao squad was still playing Caraa Tuesday evening.

The elementary boys basketball team of coach Harry Hipolito, for its part, crushed Eastern Visayas, 73-40, behind the heroics of top scorer Samuel Torres. Hipolito’s wards were still playing NCRAA as of Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Colleges Gym.
