THE City Government of Davao will provide its second wave of financial assistance worth P7.8 million to provinces, cities, and municipalities affected by the dry spell.

The Davao City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday to provide aid to 18 municipalities, one province, and two cities. The local government units will share the allocated budget coming from the 30-percent Quick Response Fund (QRF) from the five-percent calamity fund for 2019.

Province of Camarines Sur will receive P1 million, while Zamboanga City and Kidapawan City will receive P500,000 each.

Each of the 18 municipalities will receive P300,000 each. These are San Isidro in Davao Oriental; Alabel in Saranggani; Matalam, Magpet, Pigcawayan, Mlang, Pikit, Tulunan, Arakan and Alamada in Cotabato; Aleosan in North Cotabato; Bagumbayan and Lutayan in Sultan Kudarat; Paracelis in Mountain Province; Dupax del Norte in Nueva Vizcaya; Santa Barbara, Janiuay and Maasin in Iloilo.

City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDDRMO) chief Alfredo Baluran said the allocation of assistance to dryspell affected areas was the request of Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

Baluran said the financial aid will be turned over to the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), which will serve as the third party that will distribute the cash assistance to the local government units (LGUs).

“Since ongoing ang election ban, it must be coursed through sa PRC,” he said on Tuesday, April 30, at the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Last week, the city released a P3.4 million financial assistance to the calamity-declared provinces, cities and municipalities affected by the dry spell, including Davao del Sur, Carcar, Talisay and Cebu City and Cebu province and municipalities of Bingawan and Lambunao in Iloilo and Murcia in Negros Occidental.

Davao del Sur recieved P1 million; P400,000 for the province of Cebu; P500,000 for Cebu City; P300,000 for cities of Talisay and Carcar in Cebu; and P300,000 for the municipalities of Binagwan and Lambunao in Iloilo and Murcia in Negros Occidental.

Despite some portions of the city experiencing drought, Baluran said the impact is very minimal and there is no need for a recommendation to declare a state of calamity.
