Coach Alan Choachuy, Ssssuper Ka!

What was your life then before you joined the Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition?

High school pa ko medyo chubby na gyud ko. Pag-graduate nako sa college diha na ko ni-balloon. Every year I gained at least 10 lbs. until niabot jud og 300 plus pounds. I was diagnosed with hypertension. I was taking medication for maintainance. I tried to lose weight but always fail. When I joined the Biggest Loser sagul kabuang ra jud to. With no expectations of being chosen, I went to audition late in the afternoon, hapit na mag-close and to my surprise daghan kaayong tambok ni-audition. I never realized nga daghan kaayong obese and overweight. Actually, I also auditioned at the Asia Biggest Loser in Manila mga 2008 or 2009 pero wala ko nadawat.

Pilay timbang nimo pagsud sa Biggest Loser?

I was 309 pounds then paggawas nako nahimong 240. But during the finale I was just 184 pounds. Kita na jud akong abs ug bukog sa chest dapit. Ang akong mga skin hasta sa liog laylay na. I stayed only 3 months but even I was already outside the camp I continued my fitness journey and was one pound short from winning the home contestant award.

Karon pilay imong timbang?

Mga 210 pounds. Lisud na i-maintain ang below 200 kay akong priority now is my work. Medyo hinay na sad ang metabolism `cuz I’m already 48. Although, anytime I can always easily lose weight. I will just follow the diet I learned from the camp, pero medyo stressful lang.

Unsay imong diet?

I eat anything by moderation but I try to stay away sa sweets kay mao nay pinaka-delikado. I don’t have supplements, just multi-vitamins. I normally sleep 5 to 6 hours a day. My body automatically gets up at 4:30 in the morning. My favorite cheat meal? Halo-halo and lechon. Haha...

What’s your typical exercise routine every week?

I exercised almost everyday and have off day maybe once every 2 or 3 weeks. Daily routine is bike or run early morning before I go to the office. Then I lift weights in the afternoon. And in between, I served as a school bus driver sa akong kids. Haha.. Before it was around 5 to 6 hours exercise a day, now it’s just 2 to 4 hours a day. Weekend’s early morning is reserved for long rides: triathlon, mountain bike or duathlon.

What keeps you motivated?

My family. I want to grow old with my wife and to see my three kids grow up. My eldest, Carmichael, now works in a bank. My 2nd Carlisle is in College, while my youngest Alana is going senior high. My wife Caroline is my biggest supporter jud but she is not into fitness activity.

How did you get into various sports like swimming, running, basketball and triathlon?

Even before the Biggest Loser, I’ve been into basketball, mountain biking, swimming and car racing, where I was once an autocross champion. But basketball is my first love. I have coached several teams in some barangays and organization.

After Biggest Loser, what do you consider your biggest achievements?

I have finished 6 of 70.3 Ironman in Cebu and a 42 km. full marathon. I became a fitness ambassador, fitness coach, PE professor and have pioneered the METAfit Fitness Boot Camp workout in Cebu. Biggest achievement of course is by staying fit and living a healthy lifestyle.

How do you manage your time?

Wow! Mao na’y pinkalisod time management. Because aside from the training, coaching the boot camp, I’m a licensed architect by profession and run my own business construction and Tire Servictech. I just planned ahead my activities. I’m also a sports columnist in a national paper, something I never thought it would happen.

Any news sa mga ka batch nimo sa Biggest Loser? Are they still fit like you?

Sadly, 90 percent of the biggest loser contestants worldwide gain the weight back. Thank God, I’m one of the lucky few, who were still able to stay fit.
