Zamboanga City gov’t buys land for urban poor

ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has assured this city’s growing urban poor sector the local government under her administration will continue to work towards meeting the gap in the need for low cost housing project.

Salazar said the city government has already procured a housing site in the village of Talisayan for the urban poor sector in first congressional district.

“We will also purchase lands for urban poor housing in District 2,” Salazar said.

She recalled that in 2013, when Zamboanga City had experienced the humanitarian crisis as a result of the siege, at least 120,000 individuals lost their houses.

The National Housing Authority was tasked to build 6,000 houses, but only 80 percent has been completed with 20 percent still remaining, thus the gap in the housing sector. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
