CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- With an aim to raise Filipinos’ awareness on cancer treatment, China’s Fuda Cancer Hospital hosted a health lecture seminar among Kapampangans held at The Orchid Gardens here on Tuesday, April 30.

Fuda Cancer Hospital, a specialized cancer hospital based in Ghuangzou, China, is dealing extensively with the disease, and has cured thousands of patients from all over the world using both conventional and innovative treatment.

Among the topics discussed during the forum, held in partnership with GNN TV44, were New Ideas of Cancer Treatment, Cryosurgical Ablation for Cancer, Irreversible Electroporation (Nano Knife) and Stem Cell Therapy, New Cancer Microvascular Intervention Therapy-Cancer Microvascular Local Intervention, Wellness and Prevention.

Fuda Cancer Hospital Vice President Dr. Mu Feng personally shared his expertise to Kapampangans on the prevention, early detection and treatment of cancer disease which is considered one of the leading causes of mortality in the country.

“We wanted to educate people about cancer through this kind of forum because we believe that it is the best way to help them prevent it,” Feng said.

The best way to detect the disease early, Feng said, is to regularly conduct physical examination on one’s body and immediately consult to experts if there is abnormality or anything unusual.

However, Feng said that failure to detect cancer in its early stage must not cause hopelessness to patients as there are already proven treatment methodologies developed to fight the disease.

“According to the World Health Organization, cancer is considered a chronic disease, meaning we can already live with cancer. Even if you are at stage three or stage four of cancer, people can already survive it,” Feng said.

St. Luke’s General Cancer Surgeon Dr. Michael Hernandez, who partnered with Fuda Cancer Hospital, meanwhile, said that people must not fear cancer as it is already considered a curable disease.

“Ang cancer po ngayon ay nagagamot. Hindi ito death sentence o death certificate. Ang importante lang ay maagapan ito doon sa early stage pa lamang,” he said.

Hernandez also noted that people must start practicing a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy foods and engaging in regular exercise to have a better stamina against cancer.

For those who were diagnosed with cancer, Hernandez encouraged them to be optimistic and face the disease with strong faith instead of dwelling with it as it may only speed up the breakdown of their body.

“Huwag po kayong susuko. Halos lahat ng sakit ngayon may gamot na kaya magtiwala lang tayo at kumonsulta agad sa doktor,” he said.

The Fuda Cancer Hospital, being one of the national key clinical (cancer) hospitals designated by the Chinese Government since 2010, is continuously conducting studies on cancer with a research grant amounting to about $2.5 million so far.

The specialty health institute, which is also affiliated with the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Guangzhou Institute of Biomedicine Center and Health for cancer research and Jinan University School of Medicine, also has a consultation office located at Centuria Medical Makati Building, Makati, Metro Manila.
