FIVE Davao Region boxers advanced to the quarterfinals as well as the elementary and secondary boys basketball and volleyball teams in the ongoing Palarong Pambansa 2019 in separate venues in Davao City.

Davraa coach Rolando Oring said Panabo City’s Palarong Pambansa 2018 champion Christian Betonio (youth boys flyweight), Jhon Michael Diocares (youth boys light bantamweight) and Carl Jhon Austria of Panabo (school boys flyweight), Digos City’s Matthew Jade Tapang (school boys finweigth) and Davao del Sur’s Edward Teric (school boys light bantamweight) were playing different opponents as of Wednesday, May 01, at the Almendras Gym Davao City Recreation Center.

Over at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Petro Gazz Arena, the Harry Hipolito-coached Davraa elementary boys basketball team defeated Northern Mindanao (NMRAA), 55-45, to grab their third straight win without a loss. Thus, Davraa topped its bracket and will face either Zamboanga Peninsula or Central Visayas in today’s quarterfinals.

Davraa’s triumph came on the heels of shocking NCR, 60-54, Tuesday afternoon.

“Taas ang morale ng kids. Pressured konti but more excited sa prospects ng team,” Hipolito said.

Meanwhile, Davraa secondary boys basketball squad bowed to Central Luzon (CLRAA), 67-102, at the University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) Gym Wednesday. Nestor Sorrosa’s wards will collide with Calabarzon at 2:30 p.m. today in the quarterfinals.

At the Davao City-UP Sports Complex Multi-Purpose Gym, Davraa’s secondary boys spikers succumbed to CLRAA, 17-25, 25-23, 23-25, and will take on either NMRAA or Calabarzon in the quarterfinals today.

Davraa’s secondary girls spanked Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Barmm) in two sets yesterday to also stay alive and reach the quarterfinals. (MLSA)
