2 women gunned down in Talisay City

TWO women were killed while another was hurt after two unidentified assailants gunned them down in Sitio Mananga 1, Barangay Tabunok, Talisay City on Thursday morning, May 2.

Police identified the victims as Cris Quiñones, 29, a resident of the said place, and Joy Cancancio, who lives in Sitio Crusher, Barangay Lawaan 3 in the same city.

While Jonemea Cortes, a companion of the two victims, was brought to the Talisay City District Hospital after sustaining a gunshot wound on her stomach.

Police Master Sergeant Glenn Besande of the Talisay City Police Station said the incident reportedly occurred around 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Besande said Quiñones, Cansancio and Cortes were reportedly drinking with two men at that time when two unidentified men suddenly approached them.

Witnesses told police that they initially heard gunshots coming from where the victims were drinking.

They also saw two men, allegedly wearing black jackets, fleeing from the area after the shooting.

Witnesses told police Quiñones and Cancancio were already dead when they found them while Cortes was rushed to the hospital by residents there.

Police recovered two empty shells of .45 caliber pistol at the crime scene.

Besande told reporters that there is still no clear motive or as to who is behind the murders of the two women.

But they have invited the two men accompanying the victims and Cortes to the police station for questioning.

Besande also found that Quiñones reportedly has relatives that are currently in jail due to involvement in illegal drugs.

As of now, police are still conducting a follow up investigation on the incident. (JKV)
