CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- With an aim to provide better training facilities for Filipino athletes, the 1-Pacman partylist is pushing for the establishment of sports training center in every province in the country.

The 1-Pacman partylist, first elected in 2016, presents three main platforms of government with a priority for sports development, with world-boxing champion Manny Pacquiao as its chairman.

1-Pacman first nominee, Representative Mikee Romero, said the construction of provincial-based training centers will help groom potential athletes from the grassroots level.

Romero, a Kapampangan-native, said the presence of proper training centers in the local area will help produce Olympic-caliber athletes who "can boost our chances of bringing home the coveted Olympic gold medals."

“If given a chance to be in Congress again, I will be seeking a law that will mandate the construction of training centers in every province where we could culminate our sports activities for the grassroots level. In this way, our athletes will be more motivated to train and bring out their best potential,” Romero said.

Asked what sports Filipinos excel in, Romero said Filipinos have a bloodline that makes them a champion in every aspect, with proper guidance and training to help unleash their potentials.

“We already have that champion bloodline in us, we just need to bring that out. And I believe that with the right sports programs, we can produce lots of athletes that will bring pride and honor to our country,” he said.

Romero, meanwhile, has proposed 500 bills during his first term in Congress. Of these, 25 were passed into law, including the additional P500 grant for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries and the free PhilHealth coverage for indigent citizens.
