Sungduan: 8th Grand Cañao

THE Cordilleran youth and new generations of leaders in California are playing a more active role in promoting the rich cultural heritage of their indigenous roots.

One very important effort that is keeping them busy right now is their preparation for the upcoming Bibak Northern California Grand Cañao 2019 which will be held on August 3 at the Embassy Suites, Calaveras, Boulevard, Milpitas, California.

At present, they are practicing their cultural presentation which involves the playing of gangsa and other indigenous musical instruments including the unique dance of the Igorots.

This is under the close guidance of their parents, elders, and BIBAK Northern California President Rev. Leonard Oakes.

“There is a great movement currently being brewed by our youth and new generations’ leaders with their theme interweaving the generations,” Rev. Oakes said.

The group intends to promote their own culture and tradition and preserve it by sharing it to the youth and young generations who were born and raised in America.

Representing the history and cultural identity of the Cordillera, the 8th Grand Cañao or the International Festival of Igorot Arts and Culture hopes to gather the Cordillerans in the US to witness and be part of the celebration dubbed “Interweaving the Generations.”
