A TOTAL of 162 job applicants were hired on the spot during two separate job fairs at the Cebu Provincial Capitol and in SM City Cebu on Labor Day, May 1.
The two job fairs were organized by the Cebu Provincial Government and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Central Visayas.
Based on the data given by Cebu Provincial Government’s public information office, of the 990 job seekers hoping to get employed, 120 of whom were hired on the spot.
While the job fair organized by DOLE 7 at the SM City Cebu, 430 were present on their job and livelihood fair which started from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Out of the 359 qualified job applicants in DOLE 7’s job fair, 42 of them were hired on the spot, said Luchel Taniza, DOLE 7's communication officer.
Also, at least 50 applicants were referred to Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for skills training while 39 others were referred to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan (TNK) program for livelihood counseling.
Salome Siaton, DOLE 7 director, announced during the celebration of the Labor Day on May 1that there are at least 18,000 job vacancies being offered in Central Visayas.
