Zamboanga cops nab Abu Sayyaf member

SUSPECTED member of the Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) was arrested in an operation in Zamboanga City, the police said Friday, May 3.

Emmanuel Luis Licup, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested Abu Sayyaf bandit as Uring Akil, a resident of Menzi, Isabela City, Basilan.

Police Brigadier General Licup said Akil is a follower of Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf leader Furuji Indama and member of the Anjawani “gun for hire group.”

Licup said Akil was arrested after being served a warrant of arrest at 11:45 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Fatima subdivision in Boalan village.

He said Akil has standing warrant of arrest for violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 otherwise known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 with no recommended bail issued by the court of Isabela City.

Akil is also listed as the top most wanted person of Isabela City, Basilan, Licup added.

Akil was taken to the office of the Regional Intelligence Unit-9 for proper disposition. (SunStar Philippines)
