May The Fourth Be With You: Ways to celebrate May 4, ‘Star Wars’-style

THERE are casual fans of the “Star Wars” films, and then there are those who believe “Star Wars” is more than just a film franchise: it’s a lifestyle. Whether you belong to either the former or the latter, May 4 has always been a special day for fans of “Star Wars.” It’s not dubbed “May The Fourth Be With You” day for nothing.

Here are some Wookie-approved ways to celebrate this memorable day. And, may the force be with you!

Rewatch the entire saga

Though you’re thrilled to finally watch the last chapter, but “Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker” is still seven months away. (The upcoming movie is the final installment of the main “Star Wars” film franchise). Why don’t you just take a stroll down memory lane and rewatch the entire saga instead? From “A Phantom Menace” to standalone films “Rogue One” and “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” you can watch these all on the DisneyLife App.

Dress up

It’s not every day that you can wear your favorite “Star Wars” character. Now, it’s your chance to be whoever you want to be—Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Darth Vader, Chewbacca (RIP Mr. Mayhew), Leia Organa, Padme Amidala, or Rey—it’s totally acceptable because: “May The Fourth Be With You.”

Wear ‘Star Wars’ anywhere you go

Keep it casual by wearing “Star Wars”-inspired apparel. If you can wear your love for “Star Wars” on your sleeve, literally, there’s no way you cannot wear it on your sole (in your soul, get it?). Complete the look from head to toe with a “May The Force Be With You” design paired with a Master Yoda design in black flip-flops, so you can feel the force anywhere you go. (Where to get it: Havaianas available at All Flip-Flops, SM City Cebu)

Organize a ‘Star Wars’ party

Gather all Stormtroopers and organize a party where you can have a trivia night or play board games and cards like “Monopoly Star Wars Edition,” “Star Wars: Legion,” “Star Wars: Armada,” “Star Wars: Imperial Assault,” “Star Wars: Empire vs Rebellion” and many more! (Where to get it: www.starwars.com)

DIY ‘Star Wars’-inspired food and drinks

While binge-watching, your “Star Wars” party won’t be complete without snacks and drinks. Toast the saga by creating the ultimate “Star Wars”-themed drink: Blue Milk, just like Aunt Beru used to make. Just stir half a cup whole milk, one tablespoon sugar, half teaspoon vanilla together, then stir in a drop of blue food gel dye until combined. Keep in the refrigerator until ready to drink.

For your snack, make your own Ackbar Snackbar. Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment. Melt the marshmallows and butter in a medium-low heat pot. Turn off the heat and stir in the cocoa cereal. Using another piece of buttered parchment, press the coated cereal into the baking sheet until flat and let sit for 30 to 45 minutes to cool. Then, cut the cereal into 3 ½ inch ovals. On the right side of the oval, add a circle of frosting for the base of Ackbar’s eye. Use melted chocolate to create his pupil nostrils, and mouth. Once the chocolate and frosting have set, the treats are ready to serve. (For more recipes, check out www.starwars.com)

Visit a toy store

Most toy stores take “May The Fourth Be With You” seriously and showcase all their “Star Wars” merchandise such as Lego sets, lightsabers, masks, board games, action figures and board games. You can take a selfie at Toy Kingdom in SM Seaside City Cebu with its human size Stormtrooper, too.

Play ‘Star Wars’ games

Hold on to your lightsaber and get your game face on. Enjoy the adrenaline rush of being in the galaxy of far, far away by playing the biggest “Star Wars” games on mobile, Playstation or PC. You can download “Galaxy of Heroes” and “Force Arena” on Google Play or play “Star Wars Battlefront” on Playstation all day long!
