Dole-Western Visayas awaits wage hike order for household helpers

THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Western Visayas is still waiting for the order to implement the wage increase for all household helpers in the region.

Dole-Negros Occidental head Mary Agnes Capigon said before the wage increase will be implemented, there are still other processes that need to be completed prior to May 8.

Capigon said her office will oversee the implementation of the new wage order, while the Dole-Western Visayas director will participate in the deliberation of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board meetings.

She added that household workers can file complaints against their employers if they fail to follow the newly-approved wage order once it comes into effect.

General Alliance of Workers Association secretary-general Wennie Sancho said the Regional Wage Board has approved the salary increases for household workers last April 23, wherein all “kasambahays.” or domestic helpers can receive a monthly salary of P4,000 a month, up from the previous P3,500.
