WE ARE just a striking distance away from another election as the campaign spree gets more intense. Some people may already have their choices for senator, congressman and other local positions up for grabs. Others may still be pondering on the list of candidates, hopefully giving considerable weight on the person’s platform of government and track record. Today, ZUP asks its readers about their preferred qualities of candidates whom they would vote for in the coming election.
Being a part of the youth and future generation of this country, I personally believe that one can accomplish many things by simply having the will, ambition and heart to serve the country and the community. As the saying goes, when there is a will, then there is a way. (Kit Daniel Jay Lim, 20, computer science freshman (USC))
Integrity is the main factor I look for when choosing among candidates. Filipinos should vote for personalities who adhere to the code of moral and just values, especially nowadays where the stigmas in politics are evidently true. (Nikko Canete, 21, architecture graduate)
My top priority in choosing senatorial and local officials this coming election is to pick someone who is competent, honest and not a traditional politician (TraPo). Those who will advance the interest of the Filipino people locally and internationally in the face of the crisis we’re currently in. (Daniel Panaglima, 27, medical doctor (3rd placer March 2019 Physicians Licensure Exams))
Choose leaders that can be trusted at all times. They should be accountable to their constituents with utmost responsibility and efficiency and transform poor mindsets into a progressive mentality and ethos. They should be able to translate these positive mindsets into realities where constituents can truly feel and see the manifestations of their political performance. (Christine Marie Aberion, 20, architecture student (USC))
