WHEN the news of the death of former House Speaker Prospero Nograles came out Saturday, May 4, netizens and the Davao City Councilors expressed their sympathy and condolences to the Nograles family.

As confirmed by his son Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles, his father passed away on the night of May 3, although no further details were disclosed by the family about the cause of death as of Saturday. The younger Nograles shared that his father, aged 71, died peacefully with his family around him.

“Our family would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of you for being a part of Papa Boy Nogie’s life and journey. May we please ask for your continued prayers. He is finally at peace,” the younger Nograles said in a statement.

Prospero Nograles served as the 22nd Speaker of the House from 2008 to 2010 representing the first district of Davao City. He was a representative from 1989 to 2010 serving in three separate terms.
