Catholic group endorses Otso Diretso, Colmenares, Poe

VARIOUS Catholic and civil society groups urge the Filipino voters to choose leaders who are good Catholics and those who have the integrity and ability in serving the people.

During People Choice Movement (PCM) event at the Archbishop's Palace on Friday, Ricky Xavier, PCM chairperson, said it is important for the public to know who they will be voting in this coming elections.

Xavier introduced during the event the senatorial candidates whom they see are qualified based on the evaluation they did.

Otso Diretso, Grace Poe (independent), and Neri Colmenares (Makabayan) topped the group’s choice.

Xavier clarified that they are not siding the Liberal party, nor they are all pro-LP.

“It just so happen that they (Otso diretso) are the best qualified,” explained Xavier.

Xavier said before they started visiting different areas for the forum regarding the May 2019 elections, they had a selection committee which they evaluated all the senatorial candidates.

The group, according to Xavier, used the criteria they called Gabay Kristo in which they graded the senatorial candidates based on their background information and their platforms.

Xavier emphasized they make sure that the candidate is a good member of the Catholic church and respects the Philippine Constitution.

Xavier said another factor that affects their senatorial bets is the candidates’ stand on federalism which the group is against of.

“There are many provisions that are contrary to the good of the country,” said Xavier.

The senate, according to Xavier must be an independent body, and not just a government body which follows what the executive department says.

The group, as per Xavier, expressed their disagreement on the revolutionary government.

“The president has been always talking about it and we’re afraid Martial Law will come back,” explained Xavier.

Xavier encouraged the voters that on May 13, election day, that people will be united in choosing senate leaders who respect God’s commandment and the country’s Constitution.

“Magtulungan tayo na maihalal natin ang mga kandidato na nararapat na maihalal na representative natin sa gobyerno,” said Xavier.

Friday's People Choice Movement is their first leg in Cebu and they are yet to organize more forum in other parts of the country to introduce to the people their goal. (JJL)
