FOUNDED by chefs Mikhael Angelo Liong, Nicholson Aying, and John Espanola, Nomad brings to the Dabawenyos dishes that are born out of the journey of the young chefs.

The three chefs have created a menu that showcases the things they learned from individual experiences including the different food and cuisines their palate picked up along the way.

“It’s (Nomad) a contemporary and playful take on modern comfort food working cohesively with our ambiance and environment. It’s fun, hup - yet refined in a way. But never intimidating,” the restaurant said in a statement.

Recently, I had the chance to try their dishes here.

Their modern and contemporary take on their dishes also jives with how they designed the restaurant. Their industrial and modern interior was one of the first things I noticed about the restaurant. I think the design is clean and simple. Usually I would find it boring but this time, I really liked how the place looks.

For our lunch here Nomad prepared 5 Spice Calamari, Tuna Ceviche, Pork and Cheese Corquettes, and BBQ Pork Quesadilla for the starter. For our mains, they served the Grilled Chicken Caesar salad, Prawn Burger, Buttermilk Fried Chicken burger, Nomad’s Shawarma Rice, Southern Fried Chicken, 350G Pork Loin, and the Truffled Mushroom and Cream Rigatoni.

For our drinks, we had the Blood Orange Mint Fizz, Peach Sunrise, and Pomegranate Ice Tea.

Before I talk about the standout dishes, I have to say the food are beautifully plated. I also think they have really nice plates.

Their BBQ Pork Quesadilla, Grilled Chicken Caesar salad, Prawn Burger, and Nomad’s Shawarma Rice were standout dishes.

I think the BBQ Pork Quesadilla, which is served with charred corn salsa and avocado mayo, was tasty. It teally gets your appetite going.

The Grilled Chicken Caesar includes romaine lettuce, crispy bacon, croutons, and soft boiled egg topped with cheese. I think the flavors of the components of the salad really went well together.

For the Prawn Burger, you really get that distinct flavor from the prawns. I also like that it was not dry unlike most seafood-based patties.

Nomad’s Shawarma Rice consists of tumeric rice, corn pico de gallo, avocado, and crispy onion. I like the different textures you get from the dish. Of all the dishes I had, this was my personal favorite.

Nomad is located at the ground floor of Asrodel Hotel along Artiaga St., Davao City. Its current business hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
