Skatepark still a dream

WHERE is the skate park now?

This was the question of Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera exactly five months after the City Government broke ground on the skate park project.

Garganera said that when he visited the area, the sight of filling materials being dumped greeted him.

“When I saw the site, one thing that comes into my mind was the landslide in Guinsaugon in Leyte. Very sad to the skateboard enthusiasts who were promised that it will be ready by April and to the parkgoers who had to deal with the depressing sight,” Garganera said.

The skate park will be constructed on the vacant lot beside Fort San Pedro.

Last Dec. 4, the City held a groundbreaking ceremony of the project and the signing of the memorandum of agreement with Ma. Victoria “Minnie” Osmeña.

Minnie, the sister of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, donated P5 million for the project.

The City needs an additional P10 million to complete the skate park’s street and flat course.

In an interview over radio dyHP, Councilor Eugenio Gabuya Jr. said they just completed the needed permits for the project.

Gabuya assured that the construction of the project will start after the election this month.

Gabuya, who is the deputy mayor for sports, also clarified that they will use the filling materials being dumped in the area for the project. (RVC)
