Motoomul: Facing life challenges

LIFE does not always turn out the way we plan. Unexpected challenges can throw life completely off course. Below, we have guidelines on some life’s challenges and hopefully to face them successfully if some of us haven’t yet.

The number one life’s challenge is our negative feelings. We may have little time or energy to pursue what is truly important to us if strong feelings like resentment, anger or sadness consume us. If there are times negative feelings control my life, I try the following solutions. You may try also if you have forgotten them. Write down your feelings in a journal or express your feelings to a close relative, friend or seek professional help. Is there really evidence to support such a negative view of yourself? Often, negative feelings are not the result of our circumstances but of how we view life’s challenge. Slowly but surely, you can redirect your energies to something more productive if you want.

The number two life’s challenge is overwhelming demands. If overwhelming demands control your life - your children need your attention so does your spouse or employer while you take care of your ailing parent - try the following solutions: See if you can enlist the aid of others. Are there family members or friends living at your home or nearby who could give you assistance? Make your needs known to that particular person who maybe willing to adjust to your concern. Keep track of the number of demands which need your attention in a week. Can any of them be delegated to others? Be selective about accepting social invitations. If you cannot attend them because of lack of time or energy, kindly say no.

The number three life’s challenge is unchangeable circumstances. Have you been taken over by a chronic illness? A divorce? The loss of a loved one? You may feel unable to do anything but wish your situation would change. What you can do: Focus on what you can control. You may not have full control over your health but you can exercise, eat healthy food and get sufficient rest. Clarify what you would like to accomplish in life. Break it down into small steps. Try to spend at least a little time each day working toward your goal. Do the most important tasks first thing in the morning.

The last but not the least, we always pray for God’s guidance everyday that we have a satisfying control over our lives, able to live our full potential uninhibited by frustrating circumstances, daily pressures and negative feelings which the Bible refers as the real life.
